Voluntary carbon standard is a set of criteria and rules used to implement climate projects aimed at preventing (reducing emissions of) greenhouse gases and/or their removing.
Standards are voluntary in the sense that they were developed by private companies to issue carbon credits used for voluntary climate change mitigation. Examples of such standards include ISO 14064, Verified Carbon Standard, Gold Standard, and others.
