The legal framework
On March 5, 2024, the Ministry of Economic Development published Methodological Recommendations on assessing potential damage from the impact of climate risks, including recommendations on forming a list of climate-vulnerable objects in the sectors of the economy, in the subjects of the Russian Federation, and Methodological Recommendations on monitoring and assessing the effectiveness and results of measures for adapting to climate change.
Climate projects for voluntary carbon markets
The World Festival of Youth (WFY) in Russia became the first and largest youth event in the country whose carbon footprint was fully neutralized by 21,789 carbon units obtained by Sibur company as a result of implementing a climate project at the Zapsibneftekhim plant under ISO14064-2-2019.
The offsetting occurred on March 7, 2024, using the Green Digital Platform blockchain platform. 550 individuals received personalized certificates confirming the offsetting of their personal carbon footprint.
